‘If I Bought This House…’ Episode 1
Anyone else have an obsession with Zillow. Okay, great, all of you. I am no where near being able to buy a house right now, although my partner and I are definitely thinking later this year we can start looking. But I like to look all the time, just to see what’s out there, get emotionally attached, cry when it sells. You know, normal people stuff.
Anyway I was looking through Zillow when I landed on this house in one of my favorite neighborhoods, Mt Adams in Cincinnati. I lived in this neighborhood with my best friend for three years before I moved home to Cleveland. It’s a wonderful neighborhood. It sits on top of a hill overlooking downtown and the river, 10 minutes from like every neighborhood and is filled with the most charming houses. It’s super safe and walkable. Basically it’s the best ever and I miss living there every day.
I’m just going to go ahead and throw out the ‘p’ word out and say that this house is ‘pretty awesome’ - for me anyways. I mean the tall ceilings and natural light alone are enough to set my heart palpitating. It’s a three story townhouse adjacent to the Playhouse Theater. The attention to the charming detail is just SO good. Is it a bit quirky too? Oh, yes. But I love that and I am so anti cookie-cutter house that this feels so good to me.
While I love like 90% of this I definitely would want to add my own spin to a few key spots in the space. So that way I can get even more attached and have a harder time letting go. This should be fun!
I totally love a white box but I definitely like to insert some color in here and probably go a lot bolder. It’s not super spacious and the TV layout is definitely a little awkward. I would actually probably make this space more of a lounge-y, sociable seating area with more flexible seating and put the TV in another room

So, like obviously the little nook next to the fireplace is begging for some kind of built-in situation. I’m a person who doesn’t read that much but I feel like that nook is the perfect size for a built-in bar situation complete with a small drink fridge and some eclectic touches. I’m thinking just full on going for it too with a brass metal top countertop and a green paint finish on the cabinet to match the fireplace wall. I always thought a spice cabinet would be a good addition to the bar, I know I’ve definitely accumulated a lot of small bottles and mixers that always end up feeling a little awkward in a bigger cabinet.
Through that charming transomed doorway comes the dining area. It’s cute but I would get a bit more bold here. I’m noticing that as I am putting together some of these mood boards that this house is telling me it wants to be a little glam and modern with touches of eclectic vintage. I think it’s the mix of old and new in the architectural elements that makes this space feel so dynamic.

Okay, the kitchen isn’t like my peak ideal space. It actually feels a bit off from the rest of the minimalist aspect of the rest of the home. The color is rich and there is a like a lot of mixing materials in here that feels more clashing than dynamic. Not a fan of tile floors, cherry cabinets, or black granite countertops. Money is no object here so let’s just gut it shall we?

For this kitchen design I was feeling more of a French bistro design with all of the brass details that come through in the shelving, hardware and brass mesh cabinet fronts. I was really inspired by this elegant and eclectic kitchen, especially the cabinet design that I pulled into this rendering.
Okay, so here’s what I would change about this bathroom... just kidding! I think it’s pretty much perfect! I actually probably would never leave the tub lol
Well the house is pending sale right now and spoiler alert, it’s not me! But if the new homeowner’s need suggestions on how to make their home really special, just hit me up! Okay, now back to Zillow to find more houses...
